NeuroFeedback - What Happens During A Session?
You don't actually have to do anything in the session — the magic happens automatically beneath your conscious mind. All you do is lie back and relax and listen to the music coming through your headphones. Enjoy some well-earned down time or — if you really can't spare a moment — use the session to check your emails on your phone. You can also read, pray or meditate. Children can play video games on their iPad (with the audio muted) or can draw or colour in. Every time your brain is about to change into a state of dysregulation, you will hear an interruption in the music. What you will probably feel is a slow and gentle relaxing of the whole body. Over a number of sessions, the brain is trained to become more flexible and creative — leaving you better equipped to handle life's difficulties and more able to make positive changes.
How Often Should I Come In For Sessions?
Ideally, two sessions spread out during the week are best so as not to leave it too long between sessions (especially in the beginning) while the brain is trying to learn how to respond differently. If that is too demanding for your schedule, however, coming in once a week is another option. You will still see the benefits only the results will take a little longer. Don’t forget hiring a system is generally the more economical solution and you can have a session every day without leaving home!
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
I wish I could give you a 'guess-timate' but every brain is different. Most people will start to notice slight changes by the 10th session; however, they will be very subtle (although some clients surprise me!) Typically, my clients report the best results when they hire a system for 3 months. Any neurofeedback operator who advertises quicker results is probably not being completely transparent. Please remember that while neurofeedback is eminently quicker and far more effective than talking therapy at impacting the nervous system, change still takes time. It is NOT an overnight process.
Obviously the more sessions you have, the more you will experience a total mental, emotional and physical transformation. With enough training, these changes become permanent because your brain resets at a new normal. Neurofeedback is like going to the gym — the longer you do it, the healthier your brain/nervous system becomes! Personally, I have been brain-training for more than six years because I continue to experience new capacities for letting go, ever greater depth in my meditation practice, and an opening of my heart. In fact my life is so enriched by the psychological growth and sense of peace that I derive from neurofeedback that I shall probably be training with neurofeedback until I die. I often wonder whether it can take us all the way to enlightenment!
Cancellation Policy
I make every effort to accommodate clients’ changing schedules. While I do feel personally sympathetic to issues that can arise, you must notify me at least 26 hours in advance if you wish to cancel your appointment to avoid bearing a 50% cancellation fee. This ensures the best opportunity for all clients to receive services and respects my time and livelihood. Further, if I don’t give the practice manager 24 hours notice of cancellation she charges me a room fee whether or not you attend.
