Why Meditate?
The benefits of meditation are extensive and begin from the moment you start practising—even if all you seem to notice for the first little while is a busy mind that likes to follow its own thoughts!
Cognitive science has shown that when our minds wander continuously, we are more likely to worry about the future and ruminate on the past. For example, we may overthink what we didn't do or say 'right', or stress about an endless to-do list. This cycle creates a significant amount of mental and physical tension in our daily lives. Modern neuroscience supports traditional mindfulness wisdom: continuous overthinking directly impacts our daily happiness. By contrast, learning to rest in the present moment naturally calms our nervous system, builds resilience and promotes lasting emotional wellbeing.
To support your practice, I place special emphasis on teaching meditation techniques that awaken self-compassion and a tender heart. As our capacity to come into the moment with kindness increases, we become more resilient, feel more comfortable navigating life's challenges, and feel energised to live more authentically.
If you have never meditated before, or if you have tried it and found it challenging, the heart-focused self-compassion meditation is a beautiful place to start. Traditional mindfulness can sometimes feel frustrating for a beginner who expects an immediate quiet mind but encounters busy thinking. In heart-centered meditation, we forget the worry of trying to force thoughts to stop — thinking is a completely natural phenomenon of the mind. Instead, we gently turn our attention to our heart, cultivating a tender, kindly attitude toward ourselves and others, regardless of what thoughts are arising in this precious moment.
